It is Headquartered in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area and established on Facebook a year ago, The Bread is Rising Poetry Collective aims to provide a platform for poets, writers, and artists of all genres to share their art in a safe environment within a family atmosphere. Founded by a group of poets, the collective allows them to have a voice in the artistic community. Leading the charge is Jena Osman, an English teacher who has authored more than five poetry collections and founded the literary magazine Chain. She also worked for ten years as an English teacher in a high school and served as director of art education for Philadelphia Mural Arts.
Additionally, she founded and directed the Germantown and Outbound Poetry poetry festivals. Sousveillance Pageant, Osman's next hybrid collection to be published this year, combines elements of poetry, novels, and research essays in response to surveillance and the prison state.
