The Bread is Rising Poetry Collective: An In-Depth Look at the Founders

It is headquartered in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area and was established on Facebook a year ago with the mission of providing a platform for poets, writers, and artists of all genres to share their art in a safe environment within a family atmosphere. The Bread is Rising Poetry Collective was founded by a group of poets, so that they could have a voice in the artistic community. Leading the charge is Jena Osman, an English teacher who has authored more than five poetry collections and founded the literary magazine Chain. She also worked for ten years as an English teacher in a high school and served as director of art education for Philadelphia Mural Arts.

Additionally, she founded and directed the Germantown and Outbound Poetry poetry festivals. Sousveillance Pageant, Osman's next hybrid collection to be published this year, combines elements of poetry, novels and research essays in response to surveillance and the prison state.
